Terntank’s LNG-powered 15,000 DWT chemical tanker Ternsund is currently bunkering liquefied natural gas in the Port of Rotterdam.
It is the first sea-going vessel to bunker LNG in the Dutch port, one of the world’s busiest ports.
As previously reported by LNG World News, the Ternsund is also the first vessel to receive a 10 percent discount on port dues as part of the port’s new incentive programme .
The vessel arrived in Rotterdam on Sunday to deliver a shipment of naphtha at Vopak Botlek.
On Monday afternoon, the ship docked at the ECT terminal at the Willem Alexanderhaven where it is currently bunkering the chilled fuel via a truck-to-ship method using LNG from the Gate terminal owned by Vopak and Gasunie, according to the Port of Rotterdam.
LNG is being provided by the Hague-based energy giant Shell.
Prior to the LNG bunkering operations, the vessels’ tanks were cooled down from +20 °C to -162 °C.
The bunkering of the chilled fuel will be completed on Wednesday morning after which the Tersund will depart to Gothenburg, the port said.
The LNG-powered vessel is chartered by Finnish North European Oil Trade (NEOT) to distribute refined oil products from the company’s refinery in Gothenburg.
