Abu Dhabi-based National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC) said it has won a $316 million contract from Swan Energy for an LNG terminal project in Gujarat state, India.

The contract involves dredging works, construction of a breakwater and jetties and associated facilities, NMDC said, adding that the works will start after India’s four-month monsoon season.

“This project award marks a new milestone for NMDC in its strategic expansion plans to expand its operational footprint into Asia,” the statement reads.

NMDC did not reveal any additional details regarding the project. However, Swan Energy and Belgium’s Exmar in November last year signed a binding term sheet to jointly develop and operate the Jafrabad LNG port project in Gujarat state, India.

The receiving terminal is expected to have a regasification capacity of 5 mtpa, using one jetty moored floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).

The two companies also intend to expand the terminal with the addition of a second FSRU boosting the capacity to 10 mtpa.

According to the two companies, this development will be India’s first FSRU-based LNG receiving terminal.
