Sea Wave Energy Limited (SWEL), a wave energy developer based in Cyprus, has released a video showing the recent open sea testing of its wave energy device.
The Waveline Magnet 9.1 (WM9.1) has undergone 8 weeks of testing in the Larnaca Bay, off the southern coast of Cyprus.
During testing, the device demonstrated its capability to generate power within any wave environment, producing 27 watts per square meter of the device, in wave-height of 50 cm, and at a cost of €10 per square meter of the concept model, according to SWEL.
The WM 9.1 prototype is 56 meters long, and 3 metes wide, consisting of 84 platforms and accommodating around 25 double-acting pumps on board. The device weighs around 1.5 tonnes.
