Stena Bulk, the Gothenburg-based shipping company, informed on Tuesday its liquefied natural gas carrier Stena Clear Sky rescued a French couple in distress off the Brazilian north coast.

Due to a combination of bad weather and vessel malfunction, the couple lost power and was stranded for four days before being rescued, Stena said in its statement.

Pablo Tatulli, Marion Lacan and their cat Loustic, were however in good health and were dropped off in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on August 17.

“When we first saw the ship lights at night and heard the captain´s voice on the radio, we felt relieved. Then, this giant ship came towards us. We were really impressed by its size next to our little sailing boat. All we could see was the giant dragon face painted on the side becoming bigger and bigger. That was really scary,” the couple said.

The 173,400 cbm Stena Clear Sky is currently sailing in the Gulf of Mexico after departing from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG export facility on Tuesday, according to the AIS data provided by the vessel tracking website, MarineTraffic.
