REN’s Sines LNG terminal located on Portugal’s Atlantic coast is scheduled to receive a cargo of the chilled fuel from the world’s largest LNG exporter, Qatar.
The Q-flex LNG tanker Al Utouriya with a capacity of 216,203 cubic meters is due to dock at the Sines import terminal on September 2, according to the shipping data by the port of Sines.
Portugal mostly imports LNG from Nigeria, Algeria and Qatar.
The country earlier this year also received the first cargo from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG export terminal in Louisiana. This was the first U.S. LNG cargo produced from shale gas to reach Europe.
Portugal’s only LNG import facility in Sines port has a nominal sendout capacity of 600,000 cubic meters per hour (5.26 bcm per year), with a peak capacity of 900,000 cubic meters per hour.
