Clinton Marine Survey has been awarded a cable tracking project between Sweden and Denmark.
The survey includes cable tracking, ROV video, multibeam, and sidescan sonar on the link.
The water depth is ranging between 0 meters to 80 meters and has been conducted with the company’s two survey vessels MV Lode and MV Stenkoll.
Svenska kraftnät owns and operates the cables between Lindome located south of Gothenburg (Sweden) and Läsö (Denmark) of the HVDC link Konti-Skan.
Konti-Skan HVDC link was the first interconnection between Sweden and the western grid in Denmark.
The link consists of two separate cable systems (Konti-Skan 1 and Konti-Skan 2). Konti-Skan is a bipolar HVDC scheme. Pole 1 (Konti-Skan 1) was originally built in 1965, using mercury arc valves and was able to transmit up to 250 megawatts (MW) of power with an operating voltage of 250 kV. The original mercury arc scheme was taken out of operation and disconnected on 15 August 2006, being replaced by new equipment using thyristors with a power rating of 350 MW. Pole 2, the 1988-built Konti-Skan 2, was built with thyristors from the outset and can transmit 300 MW with a voltage of 285 kV.
