Port of Gothenburg informed that LNG-powered chemical tanker, Ternsund , is set to bunker the chilled fuel on Saturday.
Bunkering will take place at a protected location just off the island of Fotö at the entrance to the port, according to the Port of Gothenburg statement issued on Friday.
The 15,000 dwt tanker, built for Terntank Rederi at Avic Dingheng in China, will receive LNG from the Belgian bunkering vessel Coral Energy, with liquefied natural gas provided by Skangass.
The port added that, following the Ternsund LNG bunkering operation, several other ships will look to bunker LNG on a regular basis at the Port of Gothenburg.
Around 10 newly built LNG-powered vessels are on their way from the shipyards, all owned by Swedish tanker operators and all with routes that pass Gothenburg.
In order to promote the switch to LNG, Port of Gothenburg introduced a discount on the port charge, with Ternsund being the first vessel to qualify for full 30 percent.
