A group of independent experts led by IT Power Consulting (ITP) has been appointed as the technical advisors for the independent review of tidal lagoons.

The group comprises staff from ITP, Energised Environments and Xero Energy, supported by individual experts Roger Falconer and Chris Binnie.

The team of technical advisors will assess and validate the technical aspects of the evidence provided and identify gaps in the evidence base for a wider tidal lagoon programme in the UK and, where feasible, undertake work to address these gaps, according to ITP.

The review , announced by DECC in February 2016, is assessing the feasibility and practicality of tidal lagoon energy in the UK and whether it could play a cost effective role as part of the UK energy mix.

It is being led by Charles Hendry, the UK’s former Minister of State for Energy.

As reported earlier, Hendry issued a call for evidence seeking inputs from industry stakeholders and interested parties on the cost, benefits and opportunities of tidal lagoons.

Though the work will be independent of the government, the contract has been awarded to ITP under the Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), previously DECC’s, Technical Specialist Framework.
