Aberdeenshire-based tidal energy developer, Current2Current, has secured a £100,000 grant from the Scottish Enterprise for the development of its tidal energy technology.

The grant is a contribution towards a £260,000 R&D feasibility project the company is undertaking over the next six months, according to Current2Current which has also received match funding from a private investor.

The secured funding has enabled further development of Current2Current’s tidal energy converter (TEC), with the company now preparing extended test program in addition to the development of TEC4, a pre-production prototype device.

Brian Barnard , C2C Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to have received this substantial grant from Scottish Enterprise and are looking forward to the testing of our device later in the year. There appears to be a real appetite for tidal power right now, perhaps due to the predictability of this type of energy conversion.”

The company already tested the 2-meter diameter working prototype in the North Sea, offshore Newcastle, according to Current2Current.
