Innovacorp launches funding competition for ocean tech start-ups

Innovacorp has opened a new competition called Spark West to identify and provide seed capital for start-ups in western Nova Scotia, with the preference for clean and ocean technology sectors.

Innovacorp has opened a new competition called Spark West to identify and provide seed capital for start-ups in western Nova Scotia, with the preference for clean and ocean technology sectors.

The Spark West competition is now open for submissions for early stage technology companies in western Nova Scotia, with the special interest put on start-ups from the information technology, life sciences, clean technology and ocean technology sectors.

However, Innovacorp states, submissions for any innovation with market potential is welcome to enter the competition.

Entrants must be a start-up based in western Nova Scotia with a new knowledge-based product or service and zero sales revenue since inception.

Winners will receive up to C$50,000 in cash as well as guidance from seasoned business people, according to Innovacorp. At least four awards are anticipated for the September – November 2016 round of Spark West.

The deadline for submission is set for October 11, 2016.

Innovacorp is Nova Scotia’s early stage venture capital organization that works to find, fund and foster innovative Nova Scotia start-ups.
