Polish Gas and Oil Company (PGNiG) in cooperation with LOTOS, a Polish oil company, provided liquefied natural gas for a platform supply vessel currently under construction at the Remontowa Shipbuilding shipyard.
The two companies bunkered Siem Offshore’s newbuild, the Siem Harmony with 120 cubic meters of LNG in preparation for the vessel to head out for sea trials before being commissioned.
According to a joint statement, LNG was transported by tank cars from the Lech Kaczyński liquefied natural gas terminal to the shipyard in Gdańsk, in a first logistic project of this kind in Poland.
Poland’s LNG terminal in Świnoujście enables efficient transport of liquefied natural gas across the country, Henryk Mucha , president of PGNiG Obrót Detaliczny said, adding that the company intends to further develop LNG bunkering services.
Przemysław Marchlewicz , vice president of the management board of Grupa LOTOS added that together with PGNiG and the shipyard, the company intends to develop the necessary infrastructure for LNG bunkering.
Siem Offshore ordered four LNG-powered PSVs at the Remontowa Shipbuilding in 2013, with the first one scheduled for delivery before the end of 2016.
The Siem Harmony has already been chartered by the Australian LNG player Woodside on a five-year deal starting in 2017.
