Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) said that one of the company-operated LNG carriers recently rescued three survivors about 280 km off Mindanao, Republic of the Philippines, in the Pacific Ocean.

Earlier in August the MOL-operated carrier LNG Maleo, sailing from Port of Luwuk, Republic of Indonesia to Port of Oita, Japan encountered a drifting crew of a fishing boat, the company said in a statement.

The vessel changed course and completed the rescue operation.

A day following the rescue operation three survivors were turned over to a rescue boat from the Philippine Coast Guard.

Initially named the Northwest Swallow, the 127,000-cbm LNG Maleo was built in 1989 and renamed in 2014.
