The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Lundin Norway a drilling permit for well 7219/12-1, located in the Barents Sea offshore Norway.

The well 7219/12-1 will be drilled from the Ocean Rig’s drilling rig Leiv Eiriksson in a prospect named Filicudi.

The oil company received a consent from the Norwegian offshore safety watchdog, the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), to use the semi-submersible rig for exploration drilling in the Barents Sea at the end of August. At the time, the safety agency said the drilling was scheduled to begin in early September and last for 59 days.

The drilling program for well 7219/12-1 relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production license 533. Lundin Norway is the operator with an ownership interest of 35 percent. The other licensees are Det norske oljeselskap with 35 per cent and DEA Norge with 30 per cent.

The area in this license consists of blocks 7219/12 and 7220/10. The well will be drilled about 24 kilometers south of the discovery well 7220/10-1 in production license 533.

Production license 533 was awarded on May 15, 2009, in the 20th licensing round on the Norwegian shelf.
