Norway-based tidal technology developer, Tidetec, has installed its prototype tidal device off Svelvik, Norway.

The lifting process of Tidetec’s device was conducted by Nordic Crane, and the installation operation was carried out without any problems, according to the company.

“This is a huge milestone for Tidetec – with finally a working prototype in sea water conditions, and we are very pleased with the installation process,” Tidetec said.

“We are now open for turbine suppliers to come and visit the prototype site, and see how this simple solution for lagoon turbines works in practice.”

In the following days, Tidetec plans to tune the sensors and equipment, after which an infoscreen will be fitted next to the prototype, to provide the public with an opportunity to see the device in operation.

The ongoing trials of Tidetec’s technology will be focused on the testing of turning application, and the method of turning the device, not the turbine itself.

The testing is expected to show the robustness of the turning mechanism and the ability to keep the intended areas dry.

The full size application of Tidetec technology is intended for barrage and tidal lagoon power plants.
