Klaipedos Nafta, the operator of Lithuania’s first LNG terminal, on Thursday, said it has entered into an additional agreement on the use of the terminal’s capacity with Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas.
According to the signed agreement, during the current gas year, which lasts from 1 October 2016 to 30 September 2017, Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas has reserved additional capacities of the LNG terminal, which will amount at this stage to 2.183.016.485 kWh, Klaipedos Nafta said in a statement.
“This year, we are observing a change that market players increasingly often use the flexibility provided by the LNG terminal in forming gas supply portfolios and purchasing LNG from different world market suppliers,” Mantas Bartuška , general director of Klaipėdos Nafta said.
He noted that during this year Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas and Achema ordered a considerable amount of the LNG terminal’s capacities in the middle of the year.
Bartuška further said that the LNG infrastructure creates price competition between natural gas supplied by trunk gas pipelines and LNG supplied from the terminal.
Klaipedos Nafta added that during the new gas year, the LNG terminal capacity has been booked by two users, Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas and Litgas which reserved capacities from 1 October 2016 to 30 September 2017 and intends to regasify 3.602.216.638 kWh of natural gas.
LDT has recently signed a supply agreement with Koch Supply & Trading for LNG delivery in the equivalent of approximately 2 TWh, with cargoes to be delivered to the LNG terminal in Klaipeda.
