DCNS has released a video on ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) showcasing the working principles of its NEMO floating OTEC power plant.
OTEC is a process that produces electricity by using the temperature difference between deep cold ocean water and warm tropical surface waters.
NEMO floating power plant is expected to have the capacity of 16MW, consisting of four moudules.
The net power output of the plant is estimated to be between 10.5 and 11MW, enough to power 35,000 households.
It will be located 7 km from Bellefontaine, off the east coast of Martinique.
The project is being jointly built by DCNS and Akuo Energy, and could be operational in 2018.
