The first of two shipments of pile clusters and flotation tanks for the Johan Sverdrup field jackets have reached Kvaerner’s yard at Verdal October 4, 2016.

The structures will be installed on the first and largest steel jacket for the Johan Sverdrup project, currently under construction at Verdal, Kvaerner, a Norway-based engineering and construction firm supporting oil and gas industry, said.

Kvaerner has so far delivered 43 steel jackets for offshore platforms over the past 43 years. The riser platform for Johan Sverdrup will be the biggest and most complex jacket from Kvaerner so far.

The four pile clusters and two sets of flotation tanks weighing 7 000 tonnes will be unloaded from transportation vessels to Kvaerner’s quay at Verdal.

The giant Johan Sverdrup field, located in the North Sea, offshore Norway.

The field, operated by Statoil, will be developed in phases and the first phase involves the establishment of a field center consisting of four platforms. Production start-up is scheduled for end 2019.
