Applied LNG has won a multiyear contract from County of Sacramento to fuel the county and city natural gas vehicle fleets with renewable liquefied natural gas (RLNG).
“We have 60 vehicles that consume more than a million gallons of LNG fuel a year,” said Keith Leech , chief of fleet services for Sacramento County, adding that converting to renewable LNG will go a long way in reducing the county’s carbon footprint.
While fossil natural gas can reduce vehicle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20–25 percent compared to diesel fuel, RLNG reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by 87 percent and overall GHG emissions by 90 percent compared to diesel, Applied LNG said in its statement.
Applied LNG owns and operates three LNG liquefaction trains, one in Midlothian, Texas and two at the Needle Mountain LNG plant located near Topock, Arizona.
