Scotrenewables Tidal Power (SRTP) has started the mooring works for its SR2000 tidal turbine ahead of deployment at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) site in Orkney.

Green Marine’s vessel MV Green Isle supported by RIB ‘Tide Runner’ will be installing subsea infrastructure relating to moorings of the SRTP’s tidal device at EMEC’s Falls of Warness, off Eday.

The works are expected to last from October 7-13, 2016, according to a notice to mariners issued by Orkney Islands Council.

The SR2000 utilizes a mooring system that allows the tidal generator to weathervane about the mooring point to maintain a heading into the tidal stream to maximize power generation efficiency.

The SR2000 floating tidal device is 64 metres long and weighs around 550 tonnes.

It consists of a floating hull that incorporates two 1MW rotors mounted on retractable legs.
