Tallink Grupp said it has signed deals with Eesti Gaas in Estonia and Skangas in Finland for the supply of liquefied natural gas for its LNG-fueled newbuild fast ferry Megastar.
The fast ferry is scheduled to enter service between Helsinki and Tallin next year, Tallink Grupp said in its statement.
Megastar will be 212 meters long and will accommodate altogether 2800 passengers, and will use LNG as fuel, but will also be able to run on marine diesel.
Skangas noted in its statement that it is delivering LNG for Megastar’s sea trials directly at the Meyer wharf in Turku, Finland. Once in operation, Skangas will deliver the first LNG in Vestre hamnen in Helsinki.
The vessel was christened at the Meyer Turku shipyard in July this year when Tallink Grupp said that it expects the delivery at the beginning of 2017.
Total investment in the vessel is at €230 million (Approx. US$255.5 million) and is co-financed by the EU through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) with €4.8 million.
