A floating tidal energy plant built by Water Wall Turbine (WWT) has started harnessing the tides off British Columbia, Canada.

The floating tidal plant that could provide up to 1MW of power has become operational at Dent Island Lodge, WWT informed.

The plant was deployed to Dent Island Lodge back in June as part of the project that received financial backing from Natural Resources Canada, through its Clean Energy Fund.

The anchored floating structure has a large turbine that rotates at slow speed.

The shaft of the wheel is connected to a gearbox that turns the generator and produces electricity.
