The latest floating ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) concept from Bardot Group has been approved by the classification agency Bureau Veritas.

The concept approval or approval in principle (AIP) was granted to an OTEC system installed on an offshore buoy, following the review of general arrangement drawings, hydro-mooring analysis, structural analysis and stability analysis by Bureau Veritas.

Bureau Veritas’ approval indicates that the design is feasible, achievable, and contains no technological barriers that may prevent the design from being matured, and that the design is deemed to be suitable for use in the metocean conditions that the unit facility will be located in, according to Bardot Group.

As reported earlier, Bardot Group signed a contract to install an OTEC system in a yet to be constructed eco-resort in the Maldives. The OTEC plant, with a targeted rating of 2MW, is expected to cover 100% of the resort’s electricity needs.
