Technip’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Technip Umbilicals, has repotedly entered into a period of collective consultation with its workforce over proposed redundancies for its Newcastle-based manufacturing facility.
The company, which employs some 500 workers at its Tyneside site, is said to be planning to axe up to 110 jobs in response to the ongoing challenging conditions being experienced by the UK oil and gas industry.
However, the company said it would make a final decision following a consultation process with employee representatives.
The job losses come just a few weeks after its subsea engineering and construction division, Technip UK Limited , lined up some 130 layoffs in Aberdeen.
“Redundancies are being proposed to reflect the significantly reduced activity levels being experienced across wider industry, which are subsequently impacting the UK subsea sector,” the company said in a statement.
The last two major orders for the manufacturing plant in Newcastle came outside UK, the Greater Enfield project offshore Western Australia and the Oseberg Vestflanken 2 field offshore Norway.
