Cape Sharp Tidal is making final preparations for the deployment of one OpenHydro tidal turbine in the Bay of Fundy before the end of 2016.
Following the decision of Nova Scotia’s Supreme Court to not halt the installation of two 2MW OpenHydro tidal turbines in the Bay of Fundy, Cape Sharp Tidal is now moving ahead with the deployment plans with a target to deploy one turbine set before the end of 2016.
According to Cape Sharp Tidal’s spokeswoman, Sarah Dawson, the decision on the precise date for the deployment of the turbine will be made within a week or so.
“In terms of a date, each month, there are two windows when sea conditions on the Bay of Fundy are favorable. Within a week or so, we expect the decision to be made when we will target,” Dawson said.
Both turbines for the project are currently in Saint John, New Brunswick, where they were shipped for the replacement of a fastening component which was found to be malfunctioning back in August.
The component replacement work has been completed on one of the turbines, Dawson added.
The second turbine and its subsea base were transported to Port Saint John by BBC Chartering’s vessel Emerald early in October.
