The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has joined Ocean Energy Europe (OEE) as a lead partner to help drive the development of Europe’s ocean energy industry.

The size of the prize for commercializing the ocean renewable energy sector is significant – by 2050 the industry plans to deploy 100GW of production capacity in Europe alone, and capturing that prize in the most efficient manner possible requires the increased collaboration between industry and countries at the forefront of development, OEE states.

Rémi Gruet , CEO of Ocean Energy Europe said: “Today, Europe is a clear global leader in ocean renewable energy development. To turn this leadership into a new manufacturing sector, it is essential that the industry and leading countries are on the same page. Ocean Energy Europe provides an excellent platform to do just that, and I look forward to working closely with SEAI to help build this new European industry.”

Jim Gannon , CEO of SEAI, added: “SEAI is delighted to support Ocean Energy Europe following on from the successful event hosted in Ireland last year. Ocean energy represents a significant opportunity for Ireland and by collaborating with key partners across Europe we are keen to promote Ireland’s strengths, particularly in areas such as prototype development and testing infrastructure.”

SEAI will also be a silver sponsor of the forthcoming Ocean Energy Europe Conference 2016. OEE will serve as the main point of dialogue between the countries and the European industry as it develops a common plan for commercialising the ocean energy sector.

The Ocean Energy Europe 2016 Conference & Exhibition will be held on November 8-9, 2016, in Brussels, Belgium.
