Cape Sharp Tidal has released several videos showcasing its recently completed tidal turbine deployment operation in the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia.
A joint venture created by OpenHydro and Emera, Cape Sharp Tidal, installed the first out of two 2MW OpenHydro turbines planned for the Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE) site on November 8, 2016.
Several partners were involved in the operation, including Nova Scotia companies Atlantic Towing, Seaforth, Mike Huntley and RMI, with more than 20 local crews.
The turbine was submerged to the sea floor in a 4-hour long operation, which can be viewed in a time-lapse video below.
Twenty-four hours after deploying its first 2MW instream tidal turbine, Cape Sharp Tidal’s marine operations team connected the turbine cable tail with the 300-meter interconnection cable installed in the Minas Passage last winter.
Cape Sharp Tidal said it employed more than 300 people locally, invested tens of millions of dollars to grow the local tidal supply chain and industry, and met its commitment to spend 70% of first-phase project costs in Nova Scotia.
The deployment of the second turbine, which will complete the 4MW tidal array, will begin next year.
