The largest port in Scandinavia, Port of Gothenburg, recently recruited an engineer from the Panama Canal project to work on the construction of a completely new terminal in Sweden.
Eduardo was employed as a project manager at the Panama Canal Authority. His part of the project involved dredging the canal and building a special dock system that gathers water from Lake Gatun and by doing so keeps the water level in check even during dry periods.
Eduardo spent a total of six years on the Panama project, working on the project since 2010.
“ But when I saw that the largest port in Scandinavia was looking for engineers, it felt right to seize the opportunity ,” said Eduardo .
He will now work on the construction of the port’s new terminal, which is being built using dredge spoils from the maintenance dredging.
“ It’s a tremendously exciting project ” said Eduardo . “ Instead of sending the waste away to landfill, it is being reused in the construction of the new terminal. ”
Jan Andersson, Vice President Infrastructure at Gothenburg Port Authority , is very much aware of the value to the port of having Eduardo in the project management team. “ We’re extremely pleased that Eduardo has chosen to move to the Port of Gothenburg. He has unique experience that will benefit us greatly.”
The new terminal, to be built using dredging spoils, is scheduled for completion after 2020. The spoils will be deposited in an embanked area in the bay at Arendal and made solid by being mixed with cement.
The maximum draught for vessels calling at the new terminal will be 11 meters.
