The third cargo to be used for the testing purposes of Dunkirk LNG, France’s fourth liquefied natural gas import terminal, is set to arrive next week.
Shipping data released by the Port of Dunkirk shows that the 2005-built carrier, Maran Gas Asclepius with the capacity to transport 145,700-cbm is scheduled to dock at the terminal on November 22.
The vessel is transporting a cargo from Qatar’s LNG complex in Ras Laffan, according to the data.
The Dunkirk LNG terminal faced a few issues during the commissioning phase. It received the first cargo on in July aboard Teekay’s 135,243-cbm Madrid Spirit that was followed by the 140,500-cbm Hispania Spirit in September.
However, between the first two deliveries, the terminal stopped the sendout tests in late July due to a malfunction of level sensors when some LNG was sent by mistake into the BOG circuits and a small amount of the fuel flowed to the base of the flare, causing a fire and delays in the commissioning process.
The terminal is expected to begin commercial operations by the end of the year.
Once in full operation, the terminal is expected to be able to regasify 13 billion cbm of gas per year, enough to cover about 20 percent of France and Belgium’s yearly gas consumption.
Dunkirk LNG is 65 percent owned by EDF, 25 percent by Fluxys and 10 percent by Total.
