Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult has issued a call to the country’s universities seeking to appoint a new scientific chair in wind and ocean conditions.
The call was issued as ORE Catapult seeks to expand the research capability of its Wind and Ocean Conditions Research Team to provide a stronger offering to industry stakeholders.
Providing scientific leadership and strategic guidance, the new scientific chair will form part of the wider offering provided by the catapult in its operations and maintenance knowledge area, ORE Catapult said.
Ignacio Marti , ORE Catapult’s Innovation and Research Director, said: “In recent years we have seen acceleration in research geared towards lowering the cost of offshore renewable energy, but many challenges still lie ahead and we cannot be complacent in achieving our goals.
“Bringing industry and academia closer together means we are better equipped to tackle these issues, leverage further competitive R&D funding and, importantly, maintain the UK’s position at the forefront of the offshore renewables revolution.”
The scientific chair will be appointed by the successful university, with the deadline for universities to submit their applications set for January 11, 2017.
ORE Catapult was established in 2013 by the UK government as its flagship technology innovation and research center for offshore wind, wave and tidal energy.
