RasGas of Qatar, one the world’s largest gas exporters, delivered the third commissioning cargo to the Dunkirk LNG regasification terminal in France.
As LNG World News reported , the cargo was delivered aboard the 145,700-cbm Maran Gas Asclepius on Tuesday, November 22.
Dunkerque LNG, the facility operator, informed in its latest social media update that the vessel returned to sea on Wednesday, November 23, after completing the discharge of approximately 138,000 cubic meters of LNG.
According to Marc Benayoun , executive vice president for Gas and Italy of EDF Group and CEO of Edison, the cargo will be used to perform the final stage of the commissioning tests at the terminal.
In an earlier statement , Dunkerque LNG said that the operational and performance tests are 60 and 30 percent complete, respectively.
Dunkerque LNG said that areas that need improvement are being worked on under joint management of TS LNG and Cofiva. Commercial operations are set to start before the end of this year.
Once in full operation, the terminal is expected to be able to regasify 13 billion cbm of gas per year, enough to cover about 20 percent of France and Belgium’s yearly gas consumption.
At the end of June, RasGas and EDF signed an LNG supply agreement under which the Qatari company will deliver up to 2 mtpa of liquefied natural gas to the Dunkirk LNG terminal, starting in 2017.
Dunkirk LNG is 65 percent owned by EDF, 25 percent by Fluxys and 10 percent by Total.
