One person died and another was injured in an accident at Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, on November 22, 2016.
Both casualties are employees of a partner company, Blohm+Voss said.
The first worker was found dead at the scene by the rescue team, while the other was seriously injured and was taken to hospital for further treatment, Blohm+Voss told World Maritime News.
The shipbuilder said that the accident occurred during works taking place at the shipyard’s Dock 11 but it did not disclose the project.
The employees reportedly worked on Fred Olsen Cruise Line’s cruise ship Black Watch when they were hit by a steel support beam, according to local media.
The accident is currently being investigated by the criminal investigation department.
“Our thoughts and compassion are with the relatives of the deceased and the injured. Blohm+Voss will do all they can to help the injured person as well as the relatives of both casualties in this difficult time together with the partner company and also to aid the authorities in the early, factual clarification of the accident. We would like to thank all the staff who were on site promptly for their assistance,” Blohm+Voss said.
