The 1000 m³ trailing suction hopper dredger Sommers, built by Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard under the order of FSUE Rosmorport, has just won a national award at the Transport of Russia 10th International Forum.

TSHD Sommers received the award in the nomination “ The best innovative solution in the field of traffic engineering ” during the Transport Week 2016 event, which is being held from November 30 – December 2 in Moscow.

The dredger is the lead vessel in a series of three 1000 m³ TSHDs that were built for Rosmorport. The TSHDs were designed by Damen Shipyards Gorinchem, the Netherlands, with the working design documentation provided by Volga-Caspian Design Bureau (MNP Group), Russia.

Construction of the Sommers represents the beginning of a new era for the Russia’s shipbuilding industry.

Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard is the country’s first that started construction of self-propelled dredging equipment which combines cutting-edge solutions, both in terms of the technologies used and in terms of functionality.

The Sommers, launched in January and transferred to Rosmorport in June 2016, is currently performing dredging operations in the Makhachkala sea port.
