Nova Innovation has been recognized for its Shetland Tidal Array project at the Scottish Renewables Green Energy Awards (SRGEA) held last night in Edinburgh.
Scottish tidal energy developer has won the Judges Award, given to the entry that judges feel deserves special commendation, for its Shetland Tidal Array project.
Nova Innovation added a second 100kW turbine to the tidal array in August this year, as part of the first phase of the project which will feature a total of three turbines.
The Scottish Green Energy Awards were held in front of more than 1,200 guests in Edinburgh, featuring 50 finalists running for the awards, out of which 14 emerged as winners.
Calum Davidson, former Director of Energy and Low Carbon at Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), who recently received recognition for ‘the enormous contribution he has made to the marine power industry in Scotland’ from Atlantis Resources which named one of its tidal turbines for the MeyGen project after Davidson, was also acknowledged last night, December 1, by receiving the Outstanding Contribution Award.
The award is bestowed to a person who made the most outstanding contribution to the development of Scotland’s renewable energy industry.
Calum Davidson said: “I have always been passionate about the sector and feel immensely proud of what colleagues in HIE and across industry have achieved, particularly in the marine renewables sector. This year really has been exceptional, and I sincerely hope that the momentum being generated will continue to grow, and that Scotland even more firmly cements its world-leading position in offshore renewables.”
Niall Stuart , Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, said: “Once again the winners of the Scottish Green Energy Awards show the huge amount of creativity and determination within our sector. We have made great strides in research, innovation and deployment, and tonight the diversity and excitement of Scotland’s renewables sector is reflected in the winners of the 2016 Green Energy Awards.”
The Scottish Green Energy Awards ceremony was held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre under sponsorship of EDF Energy Renewables.
