Sabella bags €8 million
In its latest fundraising campaign, a French tidal energy developer, Sabella, has secured €8 million through Fonds Ecotechnologies, managed by the public investment bank Bpifrance, as part of the Future Investments Program run by the French Agency for Environment and Energy Management (ADEME). Sabella said it will use the funding to extend its international presence and to reinforce its technical advancements.
Green Marine to dismantle Andritz turbine
Green Marine UK has won a contract to fully decommission Andritz Hammerfest Hydro 1MW tidal turbine located at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC). Green Marine will be responsible for all management, engineering and execution of the works, with the completion expected in the first quarter of 2017.
PLOCAN platform anchors off Canary Islands
PLOCAN offshore platform has been anchored to the seabed 2.5 kilometers off the coast of Canary Islands, Spain, on November 30. It is a 32,000-tonne floating structure that will house various laboratories and test benches to advance the research related to marine sciences, and also to offshore renewable energies.
Dutch government plans €12 billion for renewables in 2017
Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Hank Kemp, has unveiled the government’s plans to allocate €12 billion for renewable energy projects, including tidal energy projects, in 2017. The funding will be spent through two tendering processes set for spring and autumn next year as part of the SDE+ scheme.
EC presents clean energy package
The European Commission (EC) has unveiled a package of measures designed to keep the European Union competitive as the clean energy transition is changing the global energy markets. The legislative proposals cover energy efficiency, renewable energy, the design of the electricity market, security of electricity supply and governance rules for the Energy Union. The package includes a revision of the Renewable Energy Directive, and sets an EU-wide target of at least 27% of all energy consumed to come from renewable sources.
