Researchers from the Aalborg University in Denmark have produced an open access handbook for ocean wave energy which covers both economical and technical topics related to wave energy utilization.

The ‘Handbook for Ocean Wave Energy’, prepared by Arthur Pecher and Jens Peter Kofoed from the Wave Energy Research Group, aims to provide a guidance into the field of ocean wave energy utilization for wave energy professionals and newcomers from different backgrounds.

It is comprised of ten chapters presenting a broad range of relevant topics, such as the technical and economic development of a wave energy converter (WEC), wave energy resource, wave energy economics, WEC hydrodynamics, power take-off systems, mooring systems as well as the experimental and numerical simulation of WECs.

The handbook covers the topic of wave energy conversion from different perspectives, providing the readers, who are experts in one particular topic, with a clear overview of the key aspects in other relevant topics in which they might be less specialized, according to the authors.

The book stems from development, research, and teaching carried out at the Wave Energy Research Group at Aalborg University over the past decades, with the aim of enhancing the understanding of the sector for a wide variety of potential readers, from investors and developers to students and academics.
