South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has secured an order to build a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for Maran Gas Maritime, a unit of Greece’s Angelicoussis Shipping Group.
Under the deal signed on Friday, DSME is to build a 173,400-cbm FSRU for Maran Gas. The contract includes an option for two additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
The deal, including the two LNG tankers, is worth 700 billion won ($589 million), DSME said in a statement.
The 295 meter-long and 46 meter-wide vessel is the first LNG-FSRU to be ordered by the Angelicoussis Shipping Group.
It will be built at DSME’s Okpo shipyard in Geoje and is expected to be delivered to the shipowner in the first half of 2020, the statement reads.
Worth mentioning, Maran Gas has earlier this year ordered two 173,400-cbm LNG carriers with options for up to two additional vessels at the Korean shipbuilding giant.
DSME is currently the world’s second largest builder of LNG tankers, just after its compatriot Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).
