Murphy Oil has awarded Barakah Offshore Petroleum a contract to service the Kikeh spar platform, offshore Malaysia.

Barakah’s wholly-owned subsidiary PBJV Group will provide production riser tensioner overhaul, maintenance and upgrade for Murphy.

The scope of work to be undertaken at Kikeh field, offshore Sabah, will involve the overhaul of the single point anchor reservoir/dry tree unit (SPAR/DTU) to like new condition, and the modification and improvement of production and drilling riser tensioner to extend the service life.

The production and drilling riser tensioner system is vital in maintaining the stability of SPAR and wellhead riser, the company said.

The contract is valued at RM 20.0 million (USD 4.5 million) and has a duration of two years with a one year extension option.

According to Barakah, the contract is expected to start in December 2016.

The Kikeh field is located 120 km northwest of the island of Labuan, offshore Sabah, Malaysia and lies in 1,300 meters water depth.
