British Antarctic Survey (BAS) has declared its fourth option with GC Rieber for an extension of the bareboat charter for ‘RRS Ernest Shackleton’.

The extension is for one-year, and will be effective from August 2017, GC Rieber informed.

RRS Ernest Shackleton, built by Kverner Klevin Leirvik, was launched in 1995.

The vessel is primarily a logistics vessel used to transport cargo, fuel and passengers, and also has a basic scientific capability.

RRS Ernest Shackleton has been on a long-term charter with BAS since August 1999. BAS further holds one annual option to extend the bareboat charter.
