DCNS launches marine renewables subsidiary
French naval and defense specialist DCNS and Bpifrance have launched a new company dedicated to marine renewable energies called DCNS Energies. It will devote its activities to accelerate the development of marine renewable energy sector by bringing tidal energy, ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) and floating offshore wind technologies to full maturity.
MeyGen tidal turbine gets blades
AC Marine & Composites has delivered the first set of tidal turbine blades to Atlantis Resources. The blades will be used for Atlantis’ AR15000 1.5MW tidal turbine which will be deployed as part of the MeyGen tidal energy project.
Minesto spreads its wings
Swedish tidal energy developer Minesto chose Green Marine from Southampton to supply the first commercial-scale wing for Deep Green tidal kite that spans 12 meters between the wing tips, and has a wing depth of 3.3 meters. The 500kW Deep Green tidal plant is planned to be deployed by the end of 2017 in Holyhead Deep, off Wales.
DCNS to retrieve Paimpol-Bréhat array for repairs
DCNS plans to remove both tidal turbines deployed at the water depth of 40 meters off Brittany, France, due to corrosion of the bolts and fasteners that has blocked the system. The faulty parts were supplied by an unnamed British company which is now facing a lawsuit filed by DCNS.
SINN Power retrieves wave energy device for upgrades
German wave energy developer SINN Power has retrieved its wave energy device to conduct upgrades after one year of deployment in Greece. The goal is to maximize energy generation and further improve durability of all components in the ocean environment. The device was taken off the wall at the Port of Heraklion in Crete for upgrades to the third generation in December 2016.
