Arctia’s LNG-fueled icebreaker Polaris that entered service on Monday has bunkered liquefied natural gas at Skangas’ LNG terminal in Pori.
According to the company’s statement, the vessel bunkered 700 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas.
Polaris is the first icebreaker in the world capable of running on both LNG and ultra-low-sulphur diesel, the statement reads, and with a total output of about 22 MW also makes it Finland’s most powerful icebreaker.
The vessel first bunkered 1,000 cubic meters of low-sulphur diesel in Katajanokka, Helsinki and arrived in Pori on Wednesday to bunker LNG as take on supplies.
The vessel is set to head to the Gulf of Bothnia and start its icebreaking duties.
