Rossall Sea Defenses Scheme in Full Swing

Works have continued on the new sea defenses at Rossall with the major changes now visible at promenade level, reports the Wyre Council. Works have continued on the new sea defenses at Rossall with the major changes now visible at promenade level, reports the Wyre Council.

Since the last update, one thousand intermediate blocks have been installed.

According to the council, almost one third of the upper promenade has been brought up to final level and topped with a slab of quartz concrete.

The installation of the rear wall is almost complete with works now centered on the various access points and the northern and southern tie-ins. Other works have included beach access step, revetment and seawall installation.

Work to date includes 245,000 tonnes of rock armor imported of which 210,000 tonnes placed, 90,000 tonnes underlayer rock placed, 203,000 tonnes of structural fill placed, 6,000 precast items cast (casting 100 units/week), 12 sets beach access steps complete, over 891 precast revetment units installed, over 1,400 precast rear and wave walls installed, over 1687 intermediate wall units installed, 1,761 meters of steel sheet piling installed and 22,800m³ of in-situ concrete and grout placed.
