Norsepower signed an agreement with Finnish shipping company Viking Line to install its rotor sail solution onboard the LNG-fuelled cruise ferry Viking Grace.
The Viking Grace currently operates between Turku (Finland) and Stockholm (Sweden), and it is expected that the addition of the rotor sail it will reduce its carbon emissions by circa 900 tons annually, equivalent to cutting 300 tons of LNG fuel per year.
Preparations for the retrofit are underway, with the installation scheduled to take place during the second quarter of 2018. making the Viking Grace the firs ever LNG/wind-electric propulsion hybrid ship.
Norsepower noted in its statement that Viking Grace will be retrofitted with a medium-sized NRS unit 24m in height and 4m in diameter, making the Viking Grace the firs ever LNG/wind-electric propulsion hybrid ship.
