The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) has won the ‘Marine and Hydro Energy’ award at the Rushlight Awards 2016-17.

The Rushlight Awards aim to support and promote all the latest clean technologies, innovations, initiatives and deployment projects for businesses and other organisations throughout the UK, Ireland and internationally.

Accepting the award, Eileen Linklater , EMEC’s client relationship and marketing manager, said:

“It is an honor to be recognized for our role in facilitating innovation, among some of the most pioneering clean-tech companies around, at a time when UK government commitment to supporting innovation is ramping up. At the Rushlight event we heard Nick Hurd, Minister for State at the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy emphasize the importance of innovation in creating an economy that works for everyone.

“The advances in marine energy that we’ve seen at EMEC demonstrate how wave and tidal energy research, development and innovation can create skilled jobs in coastal communities, as well as a nationwide supply chain – a clear fit with the government’s new Industrial Strategy.

“With the first machines tested at EMEC now deployed in the first commercial tidal arrays in Scotland and Canada, marine energy’s place as an important part of the UK’s future energy mix and a valuable export opportunity is closer than ever.”

The awards ceremony, held at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, London, on January 25, 2017, was attended by the organisations leading the way in clean technology innovation and sustainable solution deployment, investors, advisers, specialist and general media, trade associations and government departments.
