Atlantis Resources has released a video showing the installation of the cable management system (CMS) on a MeyGen tidal turbine.

The footage taken by a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) shows the installation of the CMS system used to connect the turbine to the power export cable.

CMS was installed using a multipurpose vessel Olympic Ares at the project site in the Pentland Firth, off Scotland.

Atlantis has recently deployed the third Andritz Hydro Hammerfest turbine to the MeyGen tidal array, as part of the Phase 1A of the project.

After the installation of one more turbine, the 6MW Phase 1A will be completed.

The first 1.5MW Andritz tidal turbine installed for the project started producing power mid-November 2016. Construction of the next 6MW phase, MeyGen 1B, received the financial support of €17 million from the European Commission’s NER300 fund, and is due to begin later this year.

Once constructed, the MeyGen project is planned to have a total capacity of almost 400MW.
