MaRINET2 project officially launched in Ireland
The €10.5 million EU-funded Marine Renewables Infrastructure Network (MaRINET2) program has been launched in Dublin, Ireland. MaRINET2 will provide tidal, wave, and offshore wind developers with fully-funded access to testing infrastructures for these technologies. It will run for 4.5 years with a consortium of 39 partners in 13 countries along with 57 associated infrastructures.
Minesto to receive $3.8M from its owners
Minesto’s largest owners BGA Invest and Midroc New Technology will invest additional SEK 34 million ($3.8 million) in the company by exercising all of their warrants held in Minesto. In total, Minesto can potentially add approximately SEK 82 million ($9.3 million) in proceeds, should all warrants be exercised. The last day to exercise the warrants is February 28, 2017.
MRECo targets March for BTTS construction
Marine Renewable Energy Collaborative (MRECo) is looking at March 2017 to begin with the construction of the Bourne Tidal Test Center (BTTS) in Massachusetts, USA. MRECo received a preliminary permit from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for the test center back in October 2016, and the permit from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, and it still awaits the final approval from the US Army Corps of Engineers.
SgurrEnergy grabs MeyGen contract
Renewable energy consultancy SgurrEnergy, part of Wood Group, has secured a contract with the MeyGen project developer Atlantis Resources under which it will act as the site operations contractor initially providing National Grid Control Point services. There is also an option for expanding services to include remote operational monitoring, control and reporting, for the tidal turbines of the MeyGen site in the future.
Wello’s Penguin arrives to Orkney
Penguin wave energy device has reached Orkney ahead of scheduled deployment at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC). Wello’s device was towed from Cornwall, reaching Kirkwall in Orkney on Wednesday, February 1, 2017. The device will be deployed shortly at EMEC where the preparations are ongoing as part of the CEFOW project.
