Three newbuildings owned by Norwegian shipping company Torvald Klaveness will get Octopus marine software system, which will help them meet incoming emission regulations, power and automation technology group ABB informed.
The three combination carriers are currently under construction at China’s Jiangsu New Yangzijiang shipyard, according to information provided by VesselsValue.
Ordered in December 2015, the newbuildings are slated for delivery in the second quarter of 2018, Torvald Klaveness’ data shows.
“Klaveness wants to improve the very nature of shipping. Embracing digital technology like ABB’s OCTOPUS Marine Software will help us realize our vision by allowing us to operate our vessels in a more efficient and sustainable way while complying with environmental regulations,” Christian Hovden, Project Manager at Torvald Klaveness, pointed out.
The Octopus system gathers information from onboard sensors and gives insight into key performance parameters, such as fuel efficiency, allowing Klaveness to optimize fleet-wide performance, according to ABB.
As explained by ABB, the Octopus reporting software is compliant with the IMO Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) and supports future European Union Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) rules.
