Floating Power Plant (FPP) has appointed Marine Space and Aquatera to provide environmental consultancy services for its Welsh and Scottish projects.

The two consultancies will provide environmental impact assessment (EIA) screening reports for the Dyfed and Katanes Floating Energy Park developments, FPP informed on social media.

Marine Space will be assessing the Dyfed project sited in south Wales, while Aquatera will carry out the EIA for the Katanes project in north Scotland.

“These developments are staged projects intended to deploy Floating Power Plant’s commercial scale system and the EIA Screening exercise is the first formal step in defining and developing the sites, ” FPP said on behalf of the project companies jointly owned with DP Energy.

FPP and DP Energy formed the project companies in November 2016 to evaluate and develop the sites in Scotland and Wales that would harness the energy from both winds and waves, using the hybrid wind and wave technology.

FPP developed the P80 hybrid platform that features 5-8MW floating wind turbine, combined with a 2-3MW wave energy extraction technology.

More recently, FPP launched a capital raise campaign targeting €10 million to drive forward the hybrid technology projects in UK.

To remind, Marine Space and Aquatera also signed a memorandum of understanding last year to collaborate on projects across various sectors.
