Works on the Rossall sea defenses are now in the last year of a 4 year construction program, reports the Wyre Council.
According to the council, last year was spent constructing the bulk of the project which has the same cross section throughout and hence was relatively quick to construct, including rock groynes, rock revetment, precast concrete stepped revetment, beach access steps, wave walls, intermediate walls and rear flood walls.
“ This year sees the work slow down a little as we progress with the finishes and start to gap fill the areas that are non standard and take considerably more time to construct ,“ the council said.
These areas include the beach access ramps, the steps and ramps between the lower and upper promenade, the vehicle and pedestrian access points through the rear flood wall, the northern and southern ends of the scheme which tie in to the existing defenses and also the reinforcing structure over the United Utilities outfalls which discharge through the sea wall near Chatsworth access ramp.
Overall, progress is going well and will be complete by November 2017.
