Ocean Energy Europe (OEE) has called for greater collaboration at EU Member State level to roll out the recommendations made by the Ocean Energy Roadmap.
The roadmap will be discussed during the meeting of the European Union’s Energy Council of Ministers on February 27, 2017.
It will be presented to European Energy Ministers by the EU Commissioners for Maritime Affairs, Karmenu Vella, and for Energy and Climate Action, Miguel Arias Cañete.
Ocean Energy Roadmap, published in October last year, was developed by the ocean energy industry with the support from the European Commission.
It makes concrete recommendations to bring tidal, wave and other ocean energy technologies to commercialization.
Rémi Gruet , CEO of Ocean Energy Europe, welcomed the discussion of the roadmap at Ministerial level, saying: “The industry has put a lot of work into delivering a roadmap with concrete, original and achievable actions. But the real work of rolling them out starts now.”
The roadmap proposes 6 actions to facilitate the emergence of a market for ocean energy in Europe, including the establishment of new financial products, an EU wide phase-gate R&D program, and increased collaboration around cost reduction, deployment and consenting.
OEE is a Brussels-based industry group representing the renewable ocean energy sector in Europe which acts as the main link between Europe’s ocean energy industry and the EU institutions, and EU Member States.
