Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Cruise Line’s first cruise ship custom designed for China, was floated out of its Papenburg building dock on March 4, according to German shipbuilder Meyer Werft.
Beginning early Saturday morning, the 3,850 passenger vessel departed the shipyard’s building dock II, where it has been under construction since September 2015.
The vessel is scheduled to debut in China in summer 2017 when it arrives at its home ports in Shanghai and Beijing.
“Norwegian Joy’s float out represents a major milestone in the vessel’s construction. With the ship being well on its way to completion, it will now move into the final phase of construction with delivery taking place on April 27, 2017,” Meyer Werft said.
Featuring 168,800 tons, Norwegian Joy is the second ship in the company’s Breakaway Plus Class.
The first vessel from the class, the 4,200-passenger Norwegian Escape, was delivered to the cruise line in October 2015.
